Shalom Farms

Shalom Farms is a local, organic farm that supplies Central Virginia  Food Bank, a variety of food pantries, a prescription diet program with Bon Secours health van and local farm stands in areas of our city where fresh produce is hard to find.  Join with a group to help plant, tend, and harvest produce at the farm!

Rise Against Hunger

Rise Against Hunger helps to alleviate hunger in the most impoverished areas of the world.  Join with your neighbors, host partner Westover Hills Elementary School, and WHUMC to help package over 20,000 meals in under two hours!  Event held in January/February annually.   Learn More

Bright Beginnings

The Bright Beginnings program pairs adults with local elementary school children as they shop for back-to-school clothes. WHUMC joins partner YMCA of Richmond to assist local students as the begin the school year.  (August annually)  Learn More

Westover Hills Pumpkin Patch

WHUMC is known for its annual pumpkin lot which takes up the entire front lawn.  We support a Native American Tribe in New Mexico and provide funds for community projects by selling pumpkins during the month of October. 

 

Belmont Food Pantry

WHUMC collects and delivers non-perishable food items and paper goods to be delivered to sister church, Belmont UMC for their weekly food pantry.  Learn More

Clean-Up

Each September we join together to clean Richmond’s treasured waterway, the James River.

 

Westover Hills

Elementary School Partnership

 

Join in a variety of opportunities at our local Westover Hills Elementary School:

  • Be part of a team to provide quarterly birthday parties to students
  • Drive sponsored students to summer camp at Westview on the James (July)
  • Provide goodies for Teacher Appreciation Week (May)
  • Volunteer to work an hour or two at the WHES Spring Carnival (June)
  • Serve as a classroom helper, lunch buddy, reading buddy or tutor on a regular basis (ongoing)
  • Stuff backpacks with school supplies, clothing and other goodies for children at need during the Christmas season. (November)

Kits of Caring

Contribute needed items and assemble them into hygiene kits, birthing kits and flood buckets that will be sent to areas of need worldwide.  

The Hermitage

The Hermitage holds a monthly Country Store to benefit residents who have outlived their financial resources.  Work with a team of dedicated volunteers at the store, or join with volunteers each fall to host a cookie sale for the residents.  

Operation Christmas Child

Samaritan’s Purse

Children and their families donate $25 for each shoebox, and then pack the shoeboxes which are shipped all over the world to children in need during the Christmas season.  Learn More

 

UMVIM Mission Trip

Work with a team to bring hope, healing and new or repaired homes for survivors of tornadoes, floods, etc. Trips are
planned as needed and range from one to mult-i-day opportunities.

Fall Festival

Each October we hold a Fall Festival with activities such as face painting, pumpkin decorating, silly photo booth, games, food and more! This is a free event for families in our community!
