On September 12th at our called Church Conference, our congregation unanimously approved moving to a new governing structure, called the Simplified Accountable Structure (SAS). Thank you to the SAS Task Force of Anne Rowe, Michael Walder, Nancy Rowe and Scott Crawford, who did a fabulous job researching and communicating the benefits to our congregation of moving to the SAS model.
On October 26, we will hold our annual Charge Conference to conduct the business of the church. Each year, this involves approving a list of nominees for the various leadership positions in the church. This year, we will be nominating and electing nine persons to serve on the new Leadership Board. Their terms of office will begin on January 1, 2022.
With this new leadership structure comes a change in the way to nominate leaders. The Committee on Nominations and Leadership Development will still be putting for the slate of nominees. However, they will do this using a new process. Church members can self-nominate or nominate another church member to serve on the Board. An interest form (for self-nomination) and a nomination form (to nominate another church member) are attached. Leadership Board terms are three years, but because we need to have one third of the Board rotate off each year, initial Board terms can be one, two or three years.
A Leadership Board job description is included with this communication. Being part of the Leadership Board requires no particular expertise, but it does require a commitment to vows we all take when we become members of the church, which are to support the church with our prayers, presence, gifts, service and witness. We value all ages and backgrounds, those who have been at the church for many years or those who have been here a shorter time. If you feel led by God to be a part of the Leadership Board, please complete the interest form and submit it online or in paper form to the church office no later than October 6. Similarly, if you would like to nominate another church member to serve on the Leadership Board, please complete the nomination form and submit it online or in paper form to the church office by October 6. If you intend to nominate someone, you might consider having a conversation with that person to let them know of your intention and why you think they would be an effective leader in the church.
Once interest forms and nomination forms are received, the Committee on Nominations and Leadership Development will have conversations with each person and will work to create the team that will carry us into the coming year and beyond.
